Robert and Jonny talk electric vehicles and rapid charging

Robert Llewellyn and Jonny discuss the Geneva car show and rapid charging EVs.
Have to say that Fully Charged has grown from a small niche video channel into a mainstream automobile video channel, with Rob and Jonny getting invites to discuss and review Electric Vehicles and low carbon tech all over the world. It is amazing how electric vehicle technology has developed in the 11 years this blog has run. Technically it was inevitable, but politcally it is surprising how much has changed. The main problem is Trump and his nationalist policies to desperately prop up the outdated American car industry. But I think (and pray!) that it will be a minor moronic glitch.

Anyway, here is the video:

UKIPs dangerous environmental policies

UKIPs election leaflet was delivered recently in my area and apart from the usual rhetoric and misinformation, there is some bullshit about EU 'inspired' green taxes.

The taxes and regulations that UKIP refers to are not inspired by the EU at all, they are inspired by science, so logically if UKIP want to dispose of them, then they are denying the truth that science presents us. That is a very dangerous path to take considering the huge amount of evidence regarding climate change and the fact that we are responsible for the current changes in climate.

As the EU and UK 'green' policies are based on science, then it is a requirement of any political party to put in place verifible policies that will cut Carbon emissions. It doesn't matter whether we are in the EU or not, we will have policies to cut green house gases and they may or may not be expensive.

The question is, why do UKIP continue to deny the truth about climate science?
They have the evidence to read, produced by thousands of scientists, there is also an established history of climate and atmospheric science that started in 1800.

They also have easy access to numerous business reports from companies like Apple and the insurance industry, all of which understand that humans are responsible for current changes in climate.
They can see the damage done by recent flooding, they can see that the Arctic ice is in a downward spiral, they can see that seasons are changing, they can see some species are struggling, they can see the oceans are getting more acidic, they can see the higher frequency in extreme weather.

Despite all these things, they continue to advocate a policy of gambling with peoples lives. Any sane politician would admit that their knowledge of science is minimal and would accept advice from those that know better. Instead, UKIP sell a narrative that is packed with misinformation to suit a political ideology.

Ecotricity freezes energy prices

Whilst the big six energy companies, (rightwing) newspapers and politicians lie their way through the current energy price rises and forget to mention climate change (which rears it's ugly head this weekend in the shape of a statistically significant storm).

Ecotricity is freezing its energy prices until 2014.

Dale Vince was on 'Broadcasting House' this morning pointing out that Ecotricity produced about 40% of it's own energy from renewable sources and was less vulnerable to external price rises from fossil fuels.

The propagandists will say that Ecotricity gets it's energy from the same place as anyone else. But the whole point is the big six don't have 40% of their energy from renewables. People sign up with companies like Ecotricity to 'invest' in renewables, with companies like Ecotricity you know they are commited to de-carbonisation, something that isn't obvious from the two faced big energy companies and politicians.

The dishonesty is in the way green energy is being used as a scapegoat to cover up fossil fuel price rises and the big six profiteering. Knocking £30 (the cost of FITs and RO) of renewable energy support off a £1250 energy bill in order to hide fossil fuel price rises and economic mismanagement, pretty much sums up how corrupt some people are in pursuit of power and business.

The science is fact, current climate change is caused by our carbon emissions, yet some people are willing to lie their heads off in order to save their political butts and investments.

EDF try to quash climate change protestors

In November last year climate change protestors climbed a chimney at West Burton power station to highlight the problem of climate change caused by CO2 emissions. As a result of their non-violent action, EDF Energy have decided to take overwhelming and destructive legal action by filing a £5 million civil action against the protestors. A sum of money that the protestors have no hope of paying.

It is thought that the civil action is designed to crush protest against companies that are set to build numerous gas fired power stations. The founder of the Robertsbridge Group, Brendon May, labeled EDF as 'PR Idiot' firm of the year as a result of EDFs legal action. The Robertsbridge Groups clients include Coca Cola, Orange and Sainsburys and specialise in giving environmental advice to large businesses.

The protestors that climbed the chimney at West Burton were promoting the No Dash For Gas campaign set up to campaign against the governments new policy to build numerous new gas fired power stations.

The parents of one of the protestors have set up a petition which is rapidly heading for 50,000 signatures in a few days (I estimate 8000 signed up in the last 24 hours).

Do your shopping in Waterlooville without a car?

How do you haul loads of shopping from Waterlooville to home, without a car and disposable carrier bags? This has always been a problem even when in the past we had plenty of choice for local shops. Well mothers and fathers often use the babies push chair, so we can take a lesson from this and use un-motorised wheels.

One way is to use a shopping trolley, not the supermarket variety, but a personal one that you can pull behind you. I know what your thinking, it's not for you because they are dull or uncool. Yes? No?

Well no, because there are trolleys to suit all tastes now. For example Rolser have a range of cool looking trolleys. I like the Rolser Mountain Retro. If you want to use carrier bags, then why not use a DeWeNe trolley to carry them. Lets get rid of those disposable carrier bags, get fitter and reduce GHG emissions all in one go!
